Dear Prospective BRT Owner,
Thank you for your interest in adopting a BRT through the Black Russian Terrier Club of America’s Rescue Service. We request a donation fee depending on the age and condition of the dog. At all times, additional donations to our program are gratefully and gladly accepted. The BRTs that become available for adoption are BRTs that are referred to the Club if, for any reason, they are homeless and the breeder cannot be located. Usually they range from two to six years of age. These BRTs come from a variety of circumstances, including animal shelters. When a BRT is released to the Club, it is taken to a veterinarian for a medical check and necessary vaccinations. The BRT’s temperament is evaluated and we attempt to locate any past history of the BRT. These BRTs are neutered or spayed before release to their new home. Many times BRTs are just not readily available for adoption. This is good news for us because it means that this wonderful breed is being well-cared for. The bad news is your wait may be longer than you had hoped. Please be patient with our Rescue program. Our Rescue Service strives to bring together BRTs and families in the same geographical area in order to keep transportation costs to a minimum. However, if you are willing to pay for transportation to adopt from another area, you could find a BRT in your home sooner than you think. We are looking for permanent, loving homes where the BRT will receive top quality care. These BRTs need a special place where they will be appreciated as a companion dog and part of the family, but a BRT is not the breed for everyone. Before you decide to acquire a BRT, we recommend that you acquaint your family with this breed. The following books are available:
In order to be considered as an adoptive home, you must complete the Family Profile Form and send it to your Regional and/or State Coordinator.
